Frequently
Asked Questions
Does Valdez have an airport?
Valdez does have an airport with daily flights from Anchorage.
You can find flights through Alaska Airlines or Era Aviation.
There are both a morning and an eveing flight.
Can Airport pick-up arrangements be made?
Yes, we include airport pick up and drop off for all our hunting
parties. This will be arranged once your flight plan is made.
Does the lodge have all the conveniences of home and
the office?
Yes, we have a full kitchen, comfortable lodging, showers, den
area with big screen TV, Satellite, and we have wireless internet
throughout the whole B&B for your convenience. Outside calls
can either be placed utilizing a calling card or dialing direct
to a toll free number.
What type of shotgun is recommended along with the
shot size?
A 12-gauge, 3 inch shotgun, with either #2's, or 3's
is recommended. Remember, steel or non-toxic shot only. 10-gauge
shotguns are not necessary for these decoying birds, but you
are welcome to use yours. Both semi-autos and pumps work. We
are hunting in salty conditions, so cleaning every night will
be a must for both styles of guns.
Ammunition can either be brought, or purchased in Valdez. We
recommend bringing your favorite loads with you, as selections
and quantity is limited in town.
Is bird processing available?
We can breast your birds for you or package them ready for the
taxidermist. We take great care of your trophy birds in the
field and at the lodge. We understand for many this is a once
in a lifetime hunt and they will want their birds mounted. We
recommend the services of Corey Stalker of Northern
Wings Taxidermy. If you would like Corey to mount
your birds, we will package and freeze the birds, as well as
fill out the paperwork. Corey visits Valdez weekly for pick-up.
I have both chest and hip waders, should I bring both?
The vast majority of time will be spent in a boat blind, so
waders are not necessary. If you are doing one of our puddler
or goose options in Valdez we recommend rubber boots, but waders
are not needed. We also have some waders available for loan
if people feel they truly need them.
I don't get around like I used to, or I have special
physical limitations, can I still hunt with you?
Absolutely! The boat is set up to allow any person to be accommodated.
Please contact us with your special needs, but we encourage
all people to come hunt.
Does Alaska Wildfowl Adventures guarantee me limits
of Ducks and/or Geese?
No. There are lots of elements we just don’t have control
over. Tim works his hardest to get the ducks you desire. We
try our hardest to make sure we have birds in the area and they
respond to the decoys. We scout weekly and hunt different locations
daily to help minimize the effect on the birds.
Can I bring my own dog?
We discourage hunters from bringing dogs. There's nothing I
enjoy more than seeing a well-trained retriever do its job.
But Valdez has too many sea critters that would think nothing
of having a snack of our canine hunting partner. It simply is
not worth the risk to have your dog in these cold northern waters.
Are children welcome?
Absolutely! A family hunting trip is one of the greatest experiences
of a child's life. If your family wants to come, but doesn't
want to hunt, there are other activates in Valdez. |
